Abstract：In order to reveal the ability of deformation strengthening about metallic materials，the theoretical analysis and experiments are used. The strain hardening index of 6061 aluminum alloy sheet is determined according to GB/T 5028 – 2008. Plastic deformation hardening curve that obtained by the tensile test is exponential function curve. Hardening exponent and the strength coefficient are fitted with the least square method using Matlab software. The result of study shows that the strain hardening index will greatly improve the work efficiency in the forming process of cold deformation of metals and processing of raw materials, the formulation of machining process, and processing forming process of metal cold deformation.
