Abstract： In practical applications, the least square method based on the polynomial was mainly adopted for fan characteristic curve fitting, existing problems with false convergence of quadratic polynomial and oscillation of quintic polynomial, and the shape of practical fan characteristic curve that similar to the hump six to one of fitting curves with this two polynomial method. An approximate method of fan characteristic curve fitting was put forward based on two positive and negative tangent parabolic curves, leading to be similar with the hump. Unstable working area of the fan was fitted by the positive parabolic curve while the stable working area was fitted by the negative parabolic curve. There was a jointed point between two parabolic curves; at this point both parabolic curves were equally differentiable. With this approximate method, false convergence of quadratic polynomial, and oscillation of quintic polynomial was averted.
