Abstract：The paper made similar material model according to geological conditions of Chang ping，analyzed on the movement law of above strata, stress distributions and studied the swelling deformation effects by area welling deformation rate of protected seam in mining process of lower protective layer. This study concluded that the height of "caving zone" and "fracture zone" is 6 and 20 times of coal layer and protected seam is in upper part of "fracture zone". The style of stress distributions of protected seam is "V" "U" and "W" with face advance and the largest depressurization coefficient is 47%. The effective pressure releasing angle in the strike is about 60°according to stress change of overlying strata of above strata. The largest swelling deformation rate is 7.7‰. Swelling deformation rate of protected seam is more than 3‰ behind the working face from 20m to 120m when similarity simulation mining is finished. The experiment provides theoretical basis for the effect on pressure relief and roadway layout of lower protective seam mining analysis in Chang ping mine.
